Police confirm death of suspected Shilla boy burnt by mob in Yola

Adamawa State police command has confirmed the death of a suspected Shilla gang member who was lynched and set ablaze by angry mob in Jambutu suburb of the state capital.

The public relations officer of the state police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje in a phone chat, told our reporter that the suspect who was rescued by the police and taken to the hospital was confirmed dead by doctors.

“Doctors have confirmed the death of the suspected Shilla Boy who was beaten to pulp and set ablaze by angry mob,” Nguroje said.

The suspected Shilla gang member was lynched and set ablaze by angry mob Wednesday evening after he allegedly snatched a phone from a female victim in Jambutu.

He was later rescued by a team of police led by a DPO, but later declared dead as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Recently, an angry mob has killed three suspected Shilla gang members and set them ablaze in Nassarawo area of Jimeta sparking fears that unless something drastic is done, the scourge will take a nasty dimension.

Shilla boys have in recent times constitute the most worrisome threat to security as they have been maiming and even killing innocent people while trying to disposes them of their valuables.

Recently, the state commissioner of police, Olugbenga Adeyanju has constituted a taskforce to deal with the miscreants and has since started making arrests and recovery of dangerous weapons from the arrested suspects.
