Member representing Mayo-Belwa, Toungo, Jada, Ganye federal constituency in the house of representatives and chairman house committee on Army, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas has condemned in strong terms the execution of some residents of Garkida abducted by Boko Haram during the Christmas eve attack on the border town that claimed six lives and left many injured with property worth millions of naira destroyed.
A video emerged on social media on Wednesday showing the execution of five people alleged to be abducted from Garkida by Boko Haram.
In the video, the victims who knelt down in front of five armed masked men were shot at point blank range by the insurgents.
Namdas described the inhumane execution as an act of cowardice by the insurgent who have resorted to attacking soft targets and disrupting the relative peace enjoyed by citizens of the community and its environs.
” I’m deeply pained after watching a video of the execution of some members of the Garkida community who were abducted by Boko Haram during a recent attack on the community. I condemn the act in strong terms and commiserate with the families of the victims who had to go through the pain and trauma of watching a video of the execution of their loved ones,” he said.
While appreciating the army for their swift response during the Christmas eve and boxing day attacks, the lawmaker said more needed to be done to nip the ugly trend in the bud.
” I want to again call on the military to step up their game and ensure such dastardly act do not show its ugly face again in any community by ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” Namdas said.
He commiserated with the community and entire state, and urged citizens to be more vigilant and provide relevant information and suspicious acts or persons to security agencies.
” Our security agencies are doing their best to tackle this issue of insurgency, but I believe there is room for improvement.
” I also want to call on all citizens to play their part by helping the security men with relevant information that will help them curtail such incidences in the future,” he added.
While wishing all citizens a prosperous New Year, the lawmaker pray for the return of lasting peace in the entire country.
