Gunmen have attacked players and officials of Adamawa United FC around Benin-Ore expressway last night at about 11.45pm and robbed players of valuables just as they whisked away the team’s official driver.

The players were attacked while on their way to week 11 NPFL fixture against MFM Fc in Lagos.

A player, Sadiq Lawan who was in bus said the incident happened at about 11:30pm along Benin Ore road.

” About 8 of them came out from the bush and started shooting into the air, they ordered us out last, took our money and phones”

” Later we found out that our driver has been taken away. We were coming back to Benin City and right now at a checkpoint. The coach has gone to the police station. I don’t know if the Edo FA has been contacted,” he said.

As at the time of this report, no official statement was made and effort to contact the chairman of the club Mr. Emmanuel Zira to confirm if he has been contacted by the kidnappers failed as he was not picking calls directed to his mobile phone.

But the Perm Secretary in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Aliyu Jada confirmed the attack saying that the kidnappers have contacted the team manager and gave him 24 hours to produce N50m before the driver will be released.

He also added the attack happened this morning about 6:30 am and not 11:45pm.
