JUST IN: Fintiri shifts lockdown by 24 hours on humanitarian grounds
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has again shifted the earlier lockdown he imposed on the state by 24 hours on humanitarian grounds.
The Governor has in a statement signed by his Director General, Media and Communications, Solomon Kumangar earlier said the the lockdown is to take effect by Friday midnight.
But in a counter statement shortly afterwards, the government said it has shifted the lockdown to midnight of Saturday to allow people prepare well for the lockdown.
An aide to the governor, Shariff Alhassan Sarkin Pawa who made the announcement through his facebook page said the announcement was made by the chairman, Adamawa State COVID-19 containment committee, Bashir Ahmed.
The statement reads: “Having realised that members of the public particularly civil servants are ill prepared for the commencement of the LOCKDOWN hours at midnight today, governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has graciously agreed to an extension by 24hours .
” The extension of the LOCKDOWN hours is now at midnight on Saturday to end at midnight on 9th May 2020.”
