Wives of Adamawa lawmakers under the aegis of Members’ Wives Association of Adamawa State House of Assembly, have donated assorted relief materials to some less privileged women and widows in order to reduce the hardships wrought on them by COVID-19 lockdown.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the 25 state constituencies.
Adamawa State first lady, Lami Fintiri who flagged off the distribution exercise commended the association for borrowing a leaf from her pet program aimed at assisting the vulnerable in the society.
She added that most of the beneficiaries lack the funds to cater for their basic needs.
Speaking earlier, the chairperson of the association who is the wife of the Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Doctor Hauwa Iya Abbas said, the gesture was to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 to vulnerable women across the 25 state constituencies.
Hauwa disclosed that the Association was established to help people especially in times of distress when the need for brother’s keeping becomes inherent.
She further revealed that the association intends to reach out to at least other less privileged households across the constituencies as distribution of palliatives continues.
Some of the beneficiaries of the items expressed appreciation and thanked the wives of the lawmakers for the gesture.
Before the items were shared to the beneficiaries, the women received sensitization lessons by the state coordinator of the International Republican Institute (IRI) Mr Charity Anaja on protocols for containing infection and spread of the virus.
She urged them to always observe hygiene, and regular washing of hands with soap, wear face masks while in public and also maintain social distancing whenever they are in crowded arena.
