The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Mubi chapter, has called on president Muhammadu Buhari to constitute a high powered visitation panel to carry out a forensic audit in order to unravel the alleged sharp practices carried out by the immediate past rector of the polytechnic Dr. Sadiq A. Yahya in his eight-year reign.

The Chairman of ASUP, Comrade Hussaini James who made the call during an interactive session with Newsmen also calls for immediate constitution of Governing Board of the academic institution whose tenure had already expired on may 2020.

Hussaini James said, doing that by president Muhammadu Buhari would checkmate the high level of profligacy by any administration.

Visitation panels according to him, are statutory fact-finding bodies set-up by the federal government to look into the activities of any concerned academic institution and federal Polythecnic Mubi is in dire need of such.

Among the reasons pointed out by ASUP is the alleged lack of payment of 64 months CONTISS 15, succession based on academic merit in heading departments was no longer attainable during the 8-year tenure of the former rector.

Other reasons advanced by ASUP include; sacking of about 100 staff including the national president of ASUP Mohammed Ali Kabir and his wife, procurement of N21 million Jeep for his personal comfort, over bloated salaries to some workers and execution of projects within the institution which was usually handled by different departments instead of works department and unchecked loss in Internally Generated Revenue as well as lack of conduct of convocation.

The ASUP Chairman explained that it was in the wake of these reckless attitudes and impunity that the entire leadership of the union went to it’s Yola campus on 4th September 2020 to protest what he called ‘Kangaroo’ handing over which was done on 3rd September 2020 in the night.

The unionist, therefore called on president Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of education and key stakeholders in the education sector to intervene.

Sources from the federal Polythecnic Mubi revealed that ASUP and the former Rector, Dr.Sadiq Yahya had a hostile industrial relationship for about eight years and such kind of cat and mouse friendship has deeply affected governance, management and Administration of the academic institution negatively.
