About 41 people have died of Lassa fever in parts of the country since the beginning of this year.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, made this known on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja.
He said that there were about 258 confirmed cases recorded across 19 states in the country.
The minister advised Nigerians to practice good hygiene and keep their foods from rat contamination.
The minister maintained that preventive measures were being taken at the five international airports in Nigeria in Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, Rivers, and Kano States.
He said that the Ministry of Health had issued a health advisory in the outbreak of the disease though no single case has been reported in Nigeria.
The minister said Federal Government has raised surveillance at all entry points into the country.
